It should work, because of

	OFMFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/{ofm,tfm}//;$TFMFONTS
	OPLFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/opl//
	OVFFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/ovf//
	OVPFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/ovp//

Font related stuff belongs to texmf/fonts.
