I would say that is a good example for 'no user-level installation
instructions'. ;-) Seriously, I typically install tetex-texmfsrc, simply
because it is often useful to look at the (documented) source if
something goes wrong. But I would never have thought about installing
anything from there, since it seemed obvious to me that everything from
tetex-texmfsrc is in tetex-texmf in a 'ready to use' form. I don't think
I am alone with this. Maybe I should rephrase my wish: Please include
the metrics and the mapfile for Utopia in tetex-texmf.

Are you refering to the discussion on tex-fonts or to the quote (that
initiated that discussion) posted to tex-live? After the discussion on
tex-fonts I think it was pretty clear that one is not allowed to
distribute any fonts derived from Utopia. Otherwise it would be free in
the FSF sense. But let's see if the current discussion on tex-live
brings anything new.

I find this difficult to understand, especially as metrics for the
commercial Lucida and MathTime fonts are included in tetex-texmf. The
destinction between, say, Charter and Utopia should be clear for most
people, since the Utopia fonts have to be downloaded separately.
