Is it possible to to include a routine (invoked by a command-line
option) which scans the database and lists all files which cannot be
found?

To validate the database for TeXLive-2005 I wrote a script which read
the database and then checked whether those dir1/dir2/file really
exist. It reported a lot of bugs but texdoctk found most of the files
though the entries in the database had been wrong. I had no time to
look into the sources, but I think that it's best when a validating
tool uses the same algorithm as the program.

Let me cite Gerben Wierda: "The best model of the world is the world
itself."

Anyway, it would be better to fix the database but this is much more
time consuming.

The best solution would be to provide an XML file in each package
directory which contains all the necessary information needed to
create the texdoctk database dynamically (and some more). I fear that
many volunteers are needed.

BTW., since we have $TEXMFHOME now, it would make more sense to put
the personal configuration file there rather than into the $HOME
directory and call it texdoctk.cnf or texdoctk.cfg rather than
.texdoctkrc .

  Reinhard
