Re: Lucida Fonts in teTeX

Hi Thomas, everyone

Thanks for the helpful reply. Indeed, \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} does
seem to work. However, two things still worry me:

1. Is the problem due to me having 'out-of-date' OT1-encoded .pfb
files from Y&Y? Should I upgrade my .pfb files somehow (like by buying
new ones) to avoid having to use the \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} thing in
every new LaTeX document I create?

2. From a diagnostic point of view, it's a shame that pdflatex 'failed
silently' when I installed the fonts. I get no errors, but no Lucida
fonts, just Computer Modern. It took me many, many hours of messing
around to track this down. Assuming my guess in 1. above is right,
wouldn't it be possible to have some run-time error message to the
effect of 'WARNING: Old-style Lucida Bright fonts detected but no
longer supported, see <reference> for support options'. (I suspect
this isn't a teTeX-specific problem and, if so, please excuse my
moaning!)

Cheers
- Vaughan
