Did you try something packed up for your OS or did you download the src
tarball and did the compilation yourself?

If you have done the compilation yourself: did you download and unpack
the texmf tarball (see QuickInstall)?

Sure, but texconfig currently does not handle this exception (everything
except xdvi). Improving this is on my todo list.
