tetex issues

Hello,

I have just installed from CTAN tetex-src-2.99.4.20041128-beta and 
tetex-texmf-2.99.4.20041128-beta.tar.gz on a linux box (no X11).

Three questions:

1) texconfig unexpected behaviour(?)

Running texconfig gives me a screen (in the usual texconfig look)

Could not find app-default file for xdvi
(/opt/tetex/20041128/texmf/xdvi/XDvi).
The program will exit now.   

Which is not what I expected. I don't really know what I expected...

2) font error

texexec --pdf simple.tex 

gives me lines like:

kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 72 --mag 1+14/72 --dpi 86 ptmr8r
gsftopk: fatal: map file `psfonts_t1.map' not found.
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for ptmr8r.
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
 )
Warning: pdfetex (file ptmr8r): Font ptmr8r at 86 not found



but it should work the way I entered the code. Is there anything I
have to setup?

I cannot say that the problems might not be due to some
misconfiguration here, but I cannot see any fault at the moment.
