Macro \egroup

Hi all,

I'm preparing an update for fmtcount, which was compatible with TeX Live 2024.

When using TeX Live 2025, suddenly there's a grouping error with \egroup.

I don't have any experience with \egroup and it wasn't as easy to do something
like:
\let\egroup=\endgroup

Does someone know what has changed with this macro?
