Survey on reading math aloud ... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- >From [email protected] Fri Aug 7 14:28:54 2026 Date: Fri, 07 Aug 2026 14:28:23 +0200 From: Paul Libbrecht <[email protected]> To: www-math W3C <[email protected]> Subject: Survey about usage of read-aloud maths Resent-Date: Fri, 07 Aug 2026 12:28:31 +0000 Resent-From: [email protected] Dear WWW-Maths mailing-list, more and more people use automatic read-aloud functionality for learning materials -- for example while relaxing on the sofa, jogging, cycling, or driving. In addition, some students rely on audio formats for accessibility reasons. While automatic speech synthesis for regular text has improved significantly, mathematical content remains a major challenge. Formulae and mathematical expressions are often difficult to understand when read aloud. In the IU incubator project Read-Aloud Maths, we investigate how mathematical content can be made more suitable and understandable for audio-based learning. For this, we need support from lecturers, students, and teachers. We would highly appreciate it if you could participate in our short 10'-survey: https://read-aloud-maths.iu.org/read-aloud-survey/ It would also help us a lot if you could forward the survey to other lecturers (inside or outside IU), students, or teachers. The project combines accessibility, mathematics education, and modern AI-based speech processing. Thank you very much for your support! Paul, Robert, Nazli and Tim
