Steps to reproduce:

1. invoke info:

env -u INFOPATH info --init-file /dev/null texinfo

2. press g*<RET>
3. press g*<RET> again
4. press l (or M-x history-node)
5. press l (or M-x history-node) again

Actual behavior:

info crashes:
