IME, such usage makes little sense in Texinfo: @itemx is not a separate
item, it is closely related to the @item and @itemx's near it.  So all the
index entries should precede the first @item; that would provide the best
indexing for the readers, and ensure they see not just the single @itemx,
but also its sibling @item's.
