Hop-on Wireless (OTC:HPON.PK) *Indian Carrier to Purchase 2 Million Hop-On Phones * Letter of Intent Represents Largest Order to Date and Entry Into GSM Market IRVINE, Calif., Apr 14, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Hop-On (HPON), the leading developer of disposable and fully recyclable cell phones, today announced it has received a letter of intent for the purchase of two million phones. Under the terms of the letter of intent with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), India's state-run telecommunications carrier, the first Hop-On' GSM model disposable cell phone units will begin shipping in June, with the balance of the two million phones scheduled to ship throughout 2003. Peter Michaels, Chairman and CEO of Hop-On, commented, "This letter of intent represents a very significant development for Hop-On and is the latest indication of our succe! ss in establishing a global brand for affordable wireless services. From a strategic standpoint, the Indian market has the potential to become one of the world's largest markets. This market is attractive given its size, growth rate and the fact that the consumers' low-disposable income profile is ideally suited for our low-cost handset offerings. Indian carriers have already made very substantial investments in network hardware and related infrastructure costs. By working with Hop-On, they can now move traffic onto their networks faster and more cost effectively. As a result, consumers will get a low-cost solution and carriers will get the network traffic they need to justify their investments." At a glance: Hop-on Wireless is the developer of the world's first FCC approved disposable/recyclable cellular phone. Providing a much-needed alternative to contract cellular phone service and prepaid calling cards, this innovate new product brings the convenience and security of cellular service to everyone, regardless of age, income, or credit status. Unlike users of traditional cell phones, Hop-on users are not required to sign a contract or pay roaming charges, long distance or activation fees. Low Cost As an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), op-on will be selling its phones with prepaid airtime purchased in bulk from existing wireless carriers. The phone will retail for $39.99, including 60 prepaid replenishable minutes, a hands-free ! earbud/microphone, and a battery charger. The price of the phone reflects a competitive calling rate, so there is virtually no investment in the phone itself. Users who choose not to purchase additional minutes can either recycle the phone for a rebate or simply discard it. Quality, Reliability, and Functionality Hop-on phones can be used to both place and receive calls, offering the same basic functionality as traditional landline phones. They contain the same high-quality, reliable electronics as today's full-featured cell phones, but their cost has been minimized by eliminating LCD screens, address books, and other non-essential features. Target Market The domestic wireless industry is a $63 billion wholesale market (phones and carrier revenue), and prepaid c! alling cards generate over $3 billion in annual revenue to U. S. providers. Hop-on is targeting both domestic and international markets, addressing the needs of customers who either can't or don't want to obtain a cellular service contract, yet want the convenience and security of a cell phone. - Children & Teens whose parents want them to be in touch, without having to entrust them with expensive equipment - Credit Challenged can’t qualify for cellular contracts - Senior Citizens for security and convenience without contract obligations - Business Users for primary cell-phone backup and for roaming-free coverage when traveling - Tourists for convenience and economy either out of state or out of country Recent Developments - January 3, 2003 — Hop-on begins Midwest distribution to over 300 retail loca! tions - December 23, 2002— Hop-on receives follow-on order from Walgreens - December 17, 2002 — InterDigital licenses Hop-on under global multiple-standard royalty-bearingagreement - November 26, 2002 — Viasystems to manufacture 61,000 cell phones - November 13, 2002 — Hop-on signs deal with national carrier October 23, 2002 — Hop-on signs CDMA license agreement with Qualcomm - October 17, 2002 — Hop-on launches initial distribution of world’s first disposable, fully recyclable cell phone - July 25, 2002 — FCC approves Hop-on’s CDMA disposable cell phone Investor Relations The Ruth Group, New York, NY David Pasquale (646) 536-7006 [email protected] Hop-onWireless, Inc. 2020 Main Street, Suite 110 Irvine, CA 92614 Phone: (949) 756-9008 Fax: (949) 756-9054 email: [email protected] www.hop-on.com !
