I'm more interested in real life than what standards committees say or don't say. I'm not trying to be argumentative. Presumably you had some way of actually getting this ENOMEM in real life. This behavior surprises me. So all I'm asking is, how did you get it? Are you saying that size_t is 8 bytes (or at least not 4) on your machine, and the lack of the prototype means it doesn't get promoted correctly? xmalloc.c hasn't essentially changed for many years. Why is the problem only appearing now? Running install-info has always worked fine for me, and no one has reported any bugs about it. Is it related to the fact that now other code in install-info.c and elsewhere does have prototypes now, which wasn't the case before? I'm just trying to understand. _______________________________________________ Texinfo home page: http://www.gnu.org/software/texinfo/ [email protected] http://ff0.org/mailman/listinfo/texinfo-pretest
