Sorry,I don't like this.  Most importantly, it's not compatible -- there
are plenty of node names around with \'s in them, like every Texinfo
document relating to TeX.

For another, it's almost impossible to implement in TeX.

I think allowing certain commands in node names is a better approach.
It's inevitable anyway, because we have to really support accented
letters.  But I won't be able to work on this or anything else
significant for a while :(.

    (IIRC, this is already implemented in macros at least.)

And it was not a good idea in that case either ...
