When I received your message forwarded by Eli Zaretski, I clicked on the link: http://texinfo.org/pretest/ftp/texinfo.tar.gz rather than the ftp link. It brought me texinfo 4.7.90. I saw that, but never really looked at it, nor checked back to the reference e-mail. I apologize for my part in the confusion. At least now we know that with the right header, intptr_t works just fine.
