parstepwise and itemize

Hi list.

What is wrong with the following code? it produces an
'missing \item' message:

\begin{slide}
  
 \parstepwise   {
		 \begin{itemize}
		 \item{1}
		 \step{\item{2}}
		 \step{\item{3}}
		 \end{itemize}
	       }
\end{slide}
