In fact, the incompatibility was with your use of T1 font encoding
(which requests EC instead of CM fonts).
tpslifonts so far only supported OT1 encoding, simply
because I didn't use to have the cm-super fonts installed and
didn't see the point in supporting bitmap fonts. Rather shortsighted,
as I see now!
I've uploaded a new version of the tpslifonts package which supports
T1 font encoding.
