                          TUG 2016

Registrations are open for the TeX Users Group 2016 Annual Meeting!
Plan to come to Toronto, Canada, from July 25-27, 2016.  The
registration page is https://www.tug.org/tug2016/register.html.


* We expect the slate of presentations that you will see will be
exciting. The program is developing; see the early submissions at
http://tug.org/tug2016/program.html.

As always, we invite presentations on new TeX developments, publishing,
or any topic related to the TeX world.  We especially welcome
presentations on practical use of LaTeX, plain TeX, ConTeXt, MetaPost,
and the rest of the TeX family, including in the world of commercial
ventures.  We are interested in presentations at any level, including
tutorials.

To submit a presentation of your own -- and we hope you will -- visit
http://tug.org/tug2016/cfp.html.  The deadline for abstracts is May 1.

* There will be many opportunities for informal interaction with other
TeX enthusiasts from around the world.

In addition to the usual lunches, dinners and a conference banquet (on a
harbor cruise this year!), and after-dinner get-togethers, to help spark
interaction, and just for the fun of it, we have scheduled a number of
excursions.  These include a Typography Excursion (this one is at no
additional charge), a baseball game, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara
Falls, Guelph, and Georgian Bay; for more details see

If at all possible, please specify the excursions you would like to
attend on the registration page, so we can have firm numbers for booking.


* Special guests.

You will also have a chance to meet, and hear talks by, three special
guests.  The first is Chuck Bigelow, a principal of the Bigelow & Holmes
type design firm, and co-designer of the Lucida and Wingdings font
families. The second is Kevin Larson of the psychologist of Microsoft
Advanced Reading Technologies who has been very influential in
improvements to rendering technologies such as ClearType, as well as in
fonts, and text layout. The third is Robert Bringhurst who is best known
to TeXies for his authoritative reference *The Elements of Typographic
Style*.

* Accommodations.

We've reserved rooms for conference participants at the Bond Place
Hotel, right in downtown.  The conference home page

the hotel web site.  Note that the conference rate is only guaranteed
until June 25, 2016 (rooms start at CDN$129 per night).

* Bursary and more.

on any aspect of the conference.  But in closing let us remind you that
TUG has a Bursary Fund to provide assistance for members of the TeX
community who would, for financial reasons, otherwise be unable to
attend the conference.  Send bursary applications for TUG 2016 by email
