Despite all past disagreements, I think it would be a great idea to add
compatible configure support to A-A-P.  That way we can share a common
battery of tests.  If you are also going to spend time coding a standalone
configure utility, then go for it.  It is simply my opinion that we
already have that.  I propose that we agree to disagree.  I would be
willing to provide any support you need with the SConf code or its tests
as I had a large part in writting and testing it.

FYI, Autoscons (an extension to SCons, my person project) has all of these
