Yes, it can be useful to build something but not install it.  But this
is already possible.  From the docs of ":ltlib":

      The target will be added to $INSTALL_LTLIB. Use the "installvar"
      option to select another variable name. Use {installvar=} when
      installing the target is not wanted.

Does this not work?

I'm also still waiting for a fix for the empty lines in the examples
(only in the split-up HTML files, the one-big-file is OK).

Oh and I noticed the PDF file doesn't skip to the next page to start a
new chapter.  I wonder if that can be fixed.
