I have just checked-in a new version of Aap. There are a few bug fixes,
but I also had to add new features to be able to fix them.
It is now possible to have sections in a block of build commands. The
sections are:
>build commands to be executed when the target needs to
be updated. These are the normal build commands
>nobuild Commands to be executed when the target does NOT
need to be updated.
>always commands are always executed
The sections can be used in any order and may appear multiple time.
Thus you can do something like this:
foo.out : foo.in
>build
:copy $source $target
>always
:attr {some = thing} $target
>build
:print finished building
>nobuild
:print nothing to be done
Main reason to add this was to be able to add the "buildaction"
attribute to a target also when it is not being build.
When using a production command, a route is used instead of rules. To
allow setting the "buildaction" attribute there it is now possible to
add attributes at the end of the ":route" command:
:route cpp dllobject {buildaction = cpp_build}
compile
Let me know if you think these additions are not the best solution or
when the syntax is confusing.
Please give the version a good test. I already verified the tests
run without problems, but you never know... It would be disappointing
if Linux Journal readers run into bugs when they try Aap for the first
time.

Michael: There is no such thing as a dump question.
Bernard: Sure there is. For example "what is a core dump?"
