For ftp Aap opens an ftp session and reuses it to transfer more files.
For scp Aap tries to collect a number of files that can be copied with
one scp command, but often another scp command has to be used (e.g.,
when the destination is a different directory).  Thus you have to type
your password again.

I'm not sure if it is possible to use scp in some interactive way,
feeding it a sequence of copy commands.  Perhaps ssh would need to be
used, but that would involve implementing our own scp command.

Perhaps something can be done with ssh-agent?  I don't quite understand
how it works.  The manual page doesn't mention passwords.
