well, now that works properly/perfectly here too:

| dir = ftp://n4a4xx:[email protected]/html/test
|
| all   : $dir/file
|
| $dir/file : file
|     :sys curl -T $source $target
|
`-------------------------------------------------------------

Updates when the source file has changed, and/or the target file
got deleted. (From what I understand, that's the standard also
for local files). 

Another difference seems to be, that the sign file gets produces in the
source AAPDIR folder, compared to local files, where the sign gets
stored in the target AAPDIR, well :)
