Hi all,

I've been working on new category-aware editing/adding widgets for
SuperKaramba, which are coming along nicely. They are written in PyQt: Python
bindings for the Qt toolkit. This gave me the following idea: it shouldn't be
too much extra work to build on this to create a stand-alone (i.e.
non-SuperKaramba) Qt client. This would have the following benefits:

1) a category-aware Unix client which doesn't require KDE or Superkaramba

2) a client for the Zaurus PDA, because PyQt has been ported to that platform.
I might have to redesign some widgets to accomodate the smaller screen, but
that shouldn't be too much work.

3) A Windows client. However, the non-commericial Qt version is version 2
instead of 3, so I might have to backport some stuff.

4) A Mac OS/X client. Well, the current beta release of PyQt supports Mac
OS/X, so the next official release will contain it.

Anyway, I think it would be cool to have potentially 5 clients all from the
same code base ;-)

For those who want to play with it, checkout 'core', 'make python' as root,
checkout 'superkaramba', 'make widgets', en then run pyqt_memaid.py. Make
sure you have PyQt and PyXml installed.

Cheers,

Peter

PS: I was hoping to call these widgets directly from SuperKaramba, but
unfortunately, that seems to cause problems, so I have to call the entire
pyqt_memaid program as a separate process. Less polished, but perhaps there's
a way around it.
