id field

Hello,

Is anybody (beside Peter's in his widget) using "id" field?

Can somebody explain me why id field can be useful and how?
I understand, as Richard Hoberman wrote, to have a 'hard' reference to 
elements in MemAid database from another software. But, forget my silly 
question: what for? :)

Now, Richard, do you really use it, do you find it useful? Or anybody else?


Or I am shortsighted, and I don't see that this can be useful for more people 
in the future - to have an unique string (or number) in every element - "id"?
What do you think?
