Debian XMLTV Packages

I have now completed building Debian packages for the 0.5.40 release,
and they have been uploaded to the unstable branch.  Normally, I
wouldn't do an announcement, but since a new Debian stable branch
("sarge") just released, I want to clarify a few things.

First, for the past few years, I have maintained on my own website a set
of unofficial XMLTV packages backported to Debian woody (now the
"oldstable" release).  This backport requires a lot of effort, because
XMLTV has so many dependencies that are not in the woody release.
Sometime around the end of this summer, I will discontinue support for
the woody backport.  Those of you who are using it should make plans to
move to sarge before then or else live with whatever XMLTV version you
have installed at that time.

Second, the official version of XMLTV in Debian sarge is 0.5.39-2.
Please do not ask me to update this package to a newer version.  I am
constrained by Debian's release rules to make only certain kinds of
changes to packages in the Debian stable release.  I will generally not
be able to upload a brand new version of the XMLTV packages, although I
may be able to port certain kinds of changes (mostly security-related
changes) into the packages.  If you want to track the latest XMLTV
release in sarge (rather than in the unstable branch), you'll have to
use an unofficial backport (see below).

Third, just like I did for woody, I will maintain an unofficial backport
of the newest Debian XMLTV packages to sarge.  These packages will be
available on my website just like the woody backport was.  You can go
to my Debian page to get information about how to set up your APT source
for these unofficial packages:

Problems with the official packages should be reported to the Debian BTS
using the 'reportbug' tool.  Problems with the unofficial backports
should be reported as described on the Debian page referenced above.
