With some hesitation: Git. 

Although our requirements are quite simplistic so SVN is probably more than adequate for VCS, there are other considerations such as the interoperability with other tools/chains (as mentioned by Nick).

Git can be offputting for new devs - parts of the workflow can seem obscure until you get the hang of it.

Probably GitHub.

GitLab has already been split into free and paid-for versions so I worry about its long-term free availability.

Bitbucket allows only 5 devs I think on their free account.

There is, of course, a risk that someone will buy out GitHub, and seek to commercialise it in the same way these things happened at SF.

As for SF, I think they deserve all the contempt we can throw at them.
