  I’m not sure what else is different.  People who know much more about Perl packages than me created the common code used in MacPorts.

  Ah, I see.  Using the pure_install rule, neither of the following is installed, for example:
  
  share/tv_augment/augment.conf
  share/tv_augment/augment.rules
  
  Both indicate that they are sample files.
  
  I think I will stick with the pure_install target.
