Well, really you have conflicting issues...

First, if you want to use MythTV, I suggest this document:

Second,  you mention access to raw data without importing it with any 
popular application..

Schedules Direct doesn't support a direct HTTP GET feed.  There is an 
API used to download data.   The easiest thing to do is use the XMLTV 
project tv_grab_sd_json grabber or pending inclusion tv_grab_na_sd 
(http://github.com/garybuhrmaster/tv_grab_na_sd) to download XMLTV 
formatted data.   If you want to write your own SD-JSON client, check 
the Schedules Direct forum for details.
