Adding a new font

So far I added a @FontDef in fontdefs.ld, I moved the .afm file of my font in the "fonts" folder and I created the corresponding .LCM file in "maps". But I don't know where to put the font itself, I tried to install it in Windows fonts file but when I use the new font in my document, the output is in the base Font. Am I doing something wrong?
