Tracking release dates for pieces of code

This question was prompted by my experiences using BitKeeper (and its WWW interface) to track pieces of code in the Linux kernel. Is there any easy way to find out in which release a particular line of code first appeared? The Changeset timestamps don't help, because they reflect the date when the code was first merged into _any_ BitKeeper repository, not the official one at bk://linux.bkbits.net/linux-2.6. It would be simple to get the necessary information if the WWW interface could display the state of the source files as of a particular tag date. However, AFAICS there's no way to do it, and BitKeeper doesn't even track the relevant dates and times. Can anyone help?
