Another option might be to cross-compile with crosstool ... er, well, it would be if crosstool had any known good glibc-2.2 s390 combinations in its build matrix: http://kegel.com/crosstool/current/buildlogs/ Anyway, if there's interest in better s390 support in crosstool, this could be improved.
