Anybody have a working bkd startup script for FreeBSD?

Recently, our bkd startup script for FreeBSD has stopped working. There seem to be at least 2 problems. The first, pretty easy to solve, is that the args to 'su' are different from what linux expects. The second, to which I have not found a solution, is (near as I can recall) that when started from the script, bkd does not go into the background. It also seems to only start bkd when run from an interactive shell.
