There's nothing wrong with almost always working in Flat View as such. I do it as well. However the "lots of files" you mentioned seem to indicate that you are using Flat View without Filters and that is probably not really optimal for most common day operations. I guess about 70% of my time working with WinCvs is spent in Flat View with the Show Committable filter turned on. In that scenario, if I ever get into a situation where the file view contains "a lot of files" then I'm probably not committing often enough... ;)
