Could we maybe come up with a common API that handles all those things? 
I'm not sure whether we really should have 2-5 APIs that do almost, but 
not quite the same thing. I understand the differences on Windows, but 
maybe we could have a single API with an action (or verb) selector?
That way, on the other platforms, that don't necessarily have this 
distinction, the single API could be implemented without having to 
worry about implementing the remaining 1-4 ;-)
