OK, it seems like I'm in the minority here ;) Since the user has to choose/approve the name any convention is acceptable. IMHO the suggested name should at least contain the revision in the name and look *somehow* different than the real file. To help out the Mac users to find the file it will not start with .#. I am not sure whether it should have the same extention as original file - it really seems like a good idea to append ".bak" to the name which then could be removed by the user. E.g.: foo.cpp.#1.3.45.bak The view uses: foo_view_1.1_2 I am open for other proposals though... We could even keep the retrieve revision and suggest the selection of names discussed in this thread for the users choise (and the Save As button), and add the checkbox to skip the dialog and used the convention selected by the user as default next time. That way the "Retrieve As" becomes a sub-option of retrieve revision (and we could even remove it from the menu but that's up for discussion...
