gCvs not logging on to pserver

I discovered that gCvs 1.1b1 exhibits  the following behavior when
attempting to login to a pserver via cvsnt 2.0.51:

(1) If started from a terminal, it will tell me "This CVS command
required an interactive TTY, I had to kill it."
(2) If I run in debug mode within anjuta (Linux IDE), I'll get a prompt
for a password in a terminal window that the debugger starts up.  I can
enter a password there and continue successfully.
(3) If I start it from a desktop icon or the system menu, it just
reports (without ever asking me for a password):

cvs -z3 -d :pserver:[email protected]:/data/cvs/cvsroot login

Logging in to
:pserver:[email protected]:2401:/data/cvs/cvsroot
cvs [login aborted]: authorization failed: server cvs00.masergy.com
rejected access to /data/cvs/cvsroot for user grouillier

If I open a terminal window and type that last command, cvsnt prompts me
for a password.  If I enter it, I'm authorized.

I'm trying to fix this and frankly, I'm getting bogged down reading my
way through the labyrinth of password code in gCvs and cvsnt, and
documentation is scant.  I'm wondering if someone who is already
familiar with the communication between CvsGui and cvsnt might help me
understand.

(1)  Is there a callback mechanism such that if cvsnt needs a password,
it can ask CvsGui for it over the open pipes?  Then CvsGui would pop up
a dialog, get the password from the user and return the answer to the
waiting cvsnt.
(2)  If not, I'm assuming CvsGui is supposed to get the password from
the user before calling cvsnt, and put that password where cvsnt can
find it (~/.cvs/cvspass for pserver on Linux). Is there a way for CvsGui
to ask cvsnt where it keeps its password file, so I don't have to hard
code this?  I'm guessing other cvs implementations might put the
password file someplace else.
