problems with gcvs and tcl dependency

Hi,

I've installed gcvs_1.0.0-1_386.deb for ubuntu Linux. I've got most of
the dependencies installed, but have run into trouble with tcl. Your
web site says I need tcl >= 8.3, and I've got tcl_8.3.5-96.rpm (which
I've converted into a deb file for ubuntu (with "alien" program), the
file being changed to tcl_8.3.5-97.deb), which I then installed by
simply clicking on the deb file. But when I try to install gCvs, I get
the error:

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable tcl8.3

I've searched the net for as many versions of tcl as possible. I've
found a later one, but that is not supposed to be stable. Besides, I
don't know what is causing the error message. Am I meant to have an
exact version of tcl installed?

I've been using TortoiseCVS on Windows, but am making the change to
Linux. I'm pretty new to Linux, so I may have overlooked something, so
sorry if that's the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Andrew.
