Apply global setting to single command?

I want the -q global setting to be applied to the update command, but
no other commands. I don't care about the list of directories that
gets shown by the update command, but I don't want to make any other
commands quiet. Is this possible in WinCVS? At the moment I have
WinCVS 2.0.9.1 (Build 1) installed.
Note that I already created a .cvsrc file in my CVS home with the -d
option specified for update, but -q is a global CVS option, and the
cvsnt documentation didn't provide any way of setting global settings
for a single sub-command. (Am I correct that there's no way inside
the WinCVS GUI to have sticky settings for the individual commands? I
certainly couldn't see a way to make it happen.)
Sorry if this has been asked before (or even asked many times), but
it's kind of hard to do good searches on such a large archive. I did
at least try.
