WinCvs has a "flat" display mode. If for any reason this is turned on and
the display root is D:\, this would cause what you're seeing. AFAIK you can
stop this by hitting Esc. Then check out your view settings. (If you can't
stop it, you can also try starting WinCvs with a path argument. Use a
directory that doesn't have too many subdirectories.)
