Noone said anything about "clicking" esc or the like....
You have a regular keyboard in front of you, right?
On mine the upper left key is marked ESC and this is the key you would
need to push (with your finger, not with your mouse) to "hit" ESC.
No need for a GUI to come up at all, just use the keyboard...
