Hi Gerhard Thanks a lot I have folders like this Main folder Folder 1 Folder 2 Folder 3 Folder 4 Folder 5 I click on Main folder and Can I use this command Cvs tag <daily tagname> folder 1 folder 2 folder 3 folder 4 folder 5 OR Cvs tag < daily tagname> "folder 1" " folder 2" "folder 3" "folder 4" "folder 5" Which is better. I used be able to check out code from this tag During this process on which version is the tag applied. Is it on the version available on my sandbox or is it applied directly on to the version available in repository During this tagging process if someone check in some file, will the tag apply on the version available in repository(on the latest version) or on the version available in my sandbox Best wishes, Shrikanth Achar B _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gerhard Fiedler Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 3:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [cvsgui] Tagging method On 2007-04-30 06:16:31, Shrikanth Achar wrote: > I am not sure what command to use > > Option 1: cvs tag <daily tag name> folder 1 Folder 2 folder 3 Folder 4 > Folder 5 > > Option 2: cvs rtag <daily tag name> folder 1 Folder 2 folder 3 Folder 4 > Folder 5 For both commands: if the folder names contain spaces (like "folder 1"), you need to put them in quotes (like "folder 1"). For cvs tag: the command works if you are in the common parent folder of all 5 folders. For cvs rtag: the command works if all 5 folders are top-level folders of your repository. In your scenario, I prefer cvs tag. The tag command tags the files you have in your sandbox, the rtag command tags the files in the repository. Since you are verifying the files in your sandbox, you know that /these/ are the ones you want to tag, so I would tag exactly these. (There is the possibility that someone else commits a file after your update. Using tag this doesn't matter, but with rtag you would include the recent untested commit into the tag.)
