Deleting a from in CVS

I need some help deleting a branch.  I have read that this is something 
that you shouldn't do but if you need to there is a means to do so.  
Against my better judgement a delete of a branch was preformed on our 
source via WinCVS using the information we found in CVS documentation. 
However, I still see revisions out there that WERE on the deleted 
branch. These are now, graph wise, looking like they are on the 'HEAD'. 
Can I get rid of these easily?  Should the delete of the branch been 
done differently initially?  

There is another branch that needs to be deleted and I want to be sure 
this is done cleanly.  Do all tags need to be removed from these files 
prior to deleting a branch?  This would take sometime considering the 
amount of different tags that have been used.

We are running
WinCVS 2.0.2.4(build 4) and
CVSNT 2.5.0.4(Zen) Build 2442

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
