Problem with WInCvs

Hello!
I am new to WinCvs and have a strange problem.
I try to checkout a module , get no error message,
("the fishes are swimming") but NOTHING is checked out...
Using an older version of WinCvs (1.0.6) or Tortoise on the same
computer and with the same CVS repository everything works ok.
What could possibly be wrong?
(I am using WinCvs 2.0.2.4 build 4 on WIndows 2000)
