Yes, but you lose the entire versioning history for the original name if you
do this.  Although the file/dir history itself is retained, it is retained
with the new filename.  If you checkout an older tag, the filename will not
revert to the old filename.  If you want to rename the file in a branch, but
not everywhere else, that option doesn't work either.
