The --lf flag is deprecated, if you require files to have unix line
endings then either use unix CVSNT to check it out, or mark the files as
-kL:
http://cvsnt.org/manual/html/Substitution-modes.html

> CVSROOT=:pserver:impi:PASSWORD@genome:/f//cvsroot

This is not a valid CVSROOT, the repository name /f//cvsroot is invalid:
1) if using CVSNT server then use an alias like /myrepo
2) if using CVSNT server then the physical repo needs to be on a
physical drive, eg: f:\repo
3) 'cvsroot' is a reserved word - do not create projects, repositories,
users etc with this name
4) 'cvs' and 'cvsnt' are also reserved words
