[viewvc-users] Apache basic authentication not working

See the response in this other thread for what I have tried to do: http://viewvc.tigris.org/ds/viewMessage.do?dsForumId=4255&dsMessageId=975661 This is exactly (except for the paths, of course) what I have now configured as an attempt to require authentication for our ViewVC service. It does not work. ViewVC displays the pages as before, wide open. - I have restarted Apache between configuration file changes. - I put a bogus directive in the <Location> block a proved with a start error from Apache that the configuration file is being read. - Proceeding to the Subversion browser URL pops the user ID and password box but going to ViewVC does not. I'm baffled that it will not work. The Apache logs simply report that I successfully retrieved the page from ViewVC. What more can I do to debug this issue?
