[viewvc-users] FW: [viewvc-users] Configuring ViewVC in several Virtual Sites

Hi all, 

Just wanted to check to see if anyone had any thoughts on how Apache and
ViewVC should be configured.

Your help is much appreciated.

I tried modifying the [vhosts] section for viewvc and have gotten a little
further in configuring this, now I am at least getting a repository not
found message. So, I think I am close.

If someone can take a look at how I have configured Apache and ViewVC and
let me know where I have made a mistake I would appreciate it.

In the Apache vhost config file I have:

The response I receive with going to
http://client1.tsdnet.local:8010/viewvc/repo1/

An Exception Has Occurred

The root "repo1" is unknown. If you believe the value is correct, then
please double-check your configuration.

HTTP Response Status

404 Repository not found

Hey, Ron.  It's me again.  :-)  (No, I promise that I'm not hiding at every
possible Internet endpoint, waiting to ambush you.)

Over at open.collab.net, I just asked if you had given ViewVC's vhost
support a try.  Sounds like maybe you have not.

To use the ViewVC vhost support, you'll need to do a few things:

1.  Define the vhost names for each of your virtual servers:

    [vhosts]
    client1 = client1.mydomain.com
    client2 = client2.mydomain.com
    ...

    This creates the opportunity to do override ViewVC configuration values
    on a per-vhost basis.

2.  Start doing that overriding.  You do this by creating configuration
    sections named "vhost-VHOSTNAME/CONFIGSECTION".  So, for example, if you
    wanted to change the set of repositories available via each virtual
    host, you might do:

    [vhost-client1/general]
    root_parents = /path/to/Client_1 : svn

    [vhost-client2/general]
    root_parents = /path/to/Client_2 : svn

    Each of these tells ViewVC, "When serving up via vhost "client1" (for
    example), ignore the value of "root_parents" found under the [general]
    configuration section, and use the one from [vhost-client1/general]
    instead.  Any values you do not override in a per-vhost section are
    taken from the top-level configuration sections ([general], [options],
    etc.)
