michael,

  update...i copied the diff.ezt and include/file_header.ezt files from 
the default template directory
  to template-contrib/template and template-contrib/inlcude and tested 
.... i got side-by-side color diff
  when comparing files now.. But i want to do more testing to verify 
this.. thanks.
