Both forms are fine.  ViewVC will always support either form.

There is a slight benefit to using the ".../*checkout*/..." form, though.
If the document you link to is an HTML file which uses relative links to
images or other documents also stored in CVS, those links can be navigated
directly via the ViewVC checkout display.  That usually won't happen if you
use the "?view=co" form, though, because the links within your HTML files
will not preserve the "?view=co" portion.
