Unless ... I have this memory that with certain MySQL backends, "commits" of the database changes don't happen automatically. I think perhaps it was the InnoDB storage backend for which this is true. But anyway, since ViewVC's code doesn't do anything to explicitly try to "commit" its INSERTs and UPDATEs (it expects that the INSERT or UPDATE alone is sufficient to effect permanent change in the DB), for that backend the changes would simply be automatically rolled back as if they didn't happen.
